Description

Product Description

Fish continually release ammonia into the aquarium through their gills, urine and solid waste. Uneaten food and decaying organic matter also add ammonia to the water. Even small amounts of ammonia stress fish; large amounts of ammonia will kill fish. Ammonia is the #1 killer of freshwater fish. API AMMO-LOCK Freshwater and Saltwater Aquarium Ammonia Detoxifier works instantly to detoxify ammonia, chlorine, and chloramines in fresh and saltwater aquariums. API AMMO-LOCK Ammonia Detoxifier Freshwater and Saltwater Aquarium Treatment does not remove ammonia from water; it converts it to a non-toxic form. Aquarium water will show a reduction in ammonia on API Test Kits, but a 25% water change is still recommended after dosing. For best results, use as directed on the product label. If your aquarium tests positive for ammonia, do a partial water change, then neutralize the ammonia with API AMMO-LOCK Ammonia Detoxifier Aquarium Treatment. With API aquarium products, it’s easy to keep a beautiful saltwater, freshwater or reef aquarium. For almost 60 years API has developed premium solutions with proven and effective results for your family and ours. API offers a range of testing kits, water conditioners, and nutritionally superior food, because we’re dedicated to making a better underwater world. They work to provide a safe, hospitable environment for fish such as tropical community fish, cichlids, goldfish and more. At API, we understand the rewards and relaxation of fishkeeping because we have a passion for fish too.

Not sure how this product gets good reviews

    Benjamin on 17th Mar 2023

Ammo-Lock is hydromethane sulfinate, it converts ammonia to ammonium. Ammonium is harmless to fish at levels found in an aquarium, but is used the same as ammonia by your nitrifying bacteria. It is also seen the same as ammonia with test strips, which give horribly inaccurate results. Sooooooo . . . the instructions summarize this: Add "recommended dose" based on tank size, add every two days until ammonia levels read zero. Check out the back of the bottle in the store, I'm not kidding.

Works great and fast if you have an ammonia problem

Fred Lorey on 17th Mar 2023

have some of this on hand just in case. I had a big and quick onset fish die off in my pond and bought a water tester and the ammonia was sky high. the recommended water replacement methods didn't work. finally determined the pond clarifier junk clogged the filter and apparently it just hit the wall and built up the ammonia so the next recommendation was this stuff and it worked. the remaining survivors stopped dying off. don't use those liquid clarifiers; use barley.

    Didn't completely remove ammonia

Rob Pennypacker on 17th Mar 2023

I bought this when I had a spike in my ammonia levels in my fish tank. It worked to help bring the ammonia level down, while I was doing water changes. It never completely removed the ammonia though, but it did drastically lower them. It helped to keep the fish alive and stable while doing water changes, so for that I would buy it again, if ever needed.

    Works quickly

    Twinkle on 17th Mar 2023

I have a 2 gallon tank with a Betta and snail. Some plants and a strong enough filter. I don’t think I over feed and clean up leftovers before turning the filter back on. I removed any dead or rotting plant pieces and did a partial water change. I used non chlorinated tap water. The next day the ammonia levels on detector were worse. I swapped out a little bit more water and expected a change.
